searching, searching, searching.

Someone found my blog by searching the term “bitch sex.”

I hope they found what they were looking for, and welcome.

zits.

I often read the Zits comic strip in the newspaper. It portrays a boy, Jeremy, in adolescence and at times the message can be quite funny. For instance:

I find this funny because it has totally happened in my house before. Like, almost word for word, expression for expression.

HOWEVER, I was totally disappointed/disgusted to see this in the Sunday paper:

I just don’t appreciate the message. And, maybe it’s because I’m not a guy. It’s just not helpful to deconstructing the painful norms of adolescent relationships. And when I went searching for these certain strips, I came upon today’s Zits comic:

Again, I feel like it’s encouraging the objectification of girls and the sexualization of society. Not that I don’t think they should be printed… I think it’s good to display, and then talk about how that’s not ok. The talking part doesn’t enter most breakfast tables though… and therefore, it’s harmful.

Sometimes I think I’m so liberal, I’m conservative.

Is this picture of the Golden Gate upside down or right side up? I think I have it figured out… you?

(hint: It’s easier if you look at it on a laptop, and can therefore simply flip the device over to view from multiple angles… don’t hold me responsible if something goes terribly wrong in that process. Thanks.)

Big Trucks = ?

Posted in advertisements, government, law, news, society on February 26, 2007 by taylored

I have several theories about life.

One of them is: oldest children prefer grape jelly over strawberry.

I have another theory about guys that drive humongous trucks. This story basically proves my theory.

You see,  in Maryland, apparently it has become trendy to hang fake bull balls from the hitch of large trucks.

People actually sell these, and advertise them with the slogan “Show them what you have!”

Ok, for real though? For real? Let’s take a closer look:

A congress person has proposed a bill that bans these (along with images of “naked breasts” and “genitals”) in Maryland.

The ACLU, however, is saying this goes too far. Meredith Curtis, a spokesperson for the ACLU, said, “Do we have to neuter all dogs that walk by us?”

hmm.

Yes.

Not only are dog balls grossgusting, BUT, there are far too many dogs without homes in the world. Dogs should be neutered and people should adopt these precious creatures from their local animal shelter.

I didn’t mean for this post to turn into an animal rights thing, so, I digress. Hanging balls on the back of trucks is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

And big trucks = small dick. But balls hanging on the back of your big truck = I don’t even know… something worse to one’s ego than a small dick.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist…

to not be crazy.

NASA has designed a new plan to deal with loosing it in space. The Space Association has specific measures, written into its protocol, to handle an astronaut goin’ batty in the great beyond.

The plan involves duct tape and tranquilizers.

I reckon that should work.

a ranch can be a good thing. who knew?

Posted in architecture, california, environment, life, me on February 25, 2007 by taylored

When I hear the world “ranch,” I tend to think of a conglomeration of decaying buildings that house cows, chickens, dust and Republicans.

This is simply not true… I learned that this weekend. Take for example, that quaint little neighborhood tucked in the forest, on the Western edge of California, “Sea Ranch.” This place is simply beautiful.

Progressive and environmentally friendly, slow and serene, quiet and cool, this conglomeration of homes is stunning on several levels.

This is what ALL of the houses look like in this community:

Not only are they architecturally amazing, but they are environmentally sound… and they do not obstruct the natural landscape. In fact, if you are on the shore, looking back to the hill where these homes are located, you can barely see them.

So, not only did I have a serious vacation and a chillaxing weekend, but I learned something. Democrats live on ranches too, and theirs are better.

regretting not going to class yesterday. with a mid-term on monday… not a good idea :\

feeling a bit overwhelmed. honestly, not sure why i’m not freakin’ out more.

driving up north tomorrow with friends for the weekend.

listening to water running through the pipes, the dryer and tuung.

smiling about craftness i did today.

trying to decompress in hopes of getting some sleep tonight.

wishing that day and night would switch. i work much better in the dark.

saying “i see the stars, i see the stars, i see the stars tryin’ to reach my heart. i see the stars… people the way they are.”

dreaming about a real career. a good one. with a salary.

hoping to live in the moment… enjoy minutes of my life, instead of time-periods.

hmm.

On Feb. 20 I tagged my rant on the sexualization of society as “sex.”

I got the most blog views that day.

Coincidence?

I think not.

identity.

Posted in life, sports, theory on February 22, 2007 by taylored

I am a firm believer in ever-changing identity. I don’t think it’s static, it doesn’t stand still, identity isn’t one thing. What I am, or am not, is in a constant state of redefinition, refinement or complete change.  Surroundings and situations affect identity and how you chose to describe yourself. Of course there are things about the way I identify that are constant. Yet still – the way I identify at work is totally different from the way I identify with my friends. Sometimes, at work for instance, I think I throw out my “woman” identity to level the playing field. I don’t believe this is a function of roles either.

What I was thinking about today is American identity. How I had to be abroad to be the most American I have ever been. OF COURSE, I didn’t plaster a flag on my backpack, but, through the lenses of others, I was “the American girl.” Before abroad-ness, I had never, ever “identified” as American, I had never introduced myself with that label attached. As I became used to my identity as AMERICAN… I think I changed, even if momentarily. The moment I disembarked from the plane and stepped foot back in the U.S. of A., I almost snapped back into a non-American, which is kind of counter-intuitive.

 Anyway, it’s kind of interesting.
